Goromo (go-ROW-mow): The Goromo koi fish, also referred to as Koromo, is a crossbreed between the popular Asagi and Kohaku varieties. Goromo koi fish come in three distinct subcategories, making them one of the most diverse breeds in terms of color and patterning. Although this breed did not become available until the early 1950s, it has quickly become a favorite breed amongst koi fish hobbyists.
The first subcategory of Goromo koi fish is the Ai Goromo (the most popular of the types) who are well known for their blue edging on the inside of the red scales. The next subcategory of Goromo koi is the Budo Goromo, known for their piercing red scales overlaid with a deep color resembling a purplish appearance. Finally, Sumi Goromo, the last subcategory, have black edging on the scales which can make their patterning appear almost completely black.
